"What makes me optimistic is gratitude," Anna Ngoc Le told me.

Gratitude is a grand quality for reinforcing optimism!

Anna told me, "I am grateful for every breath I take and for my loving family who support me in leading the life I envision.

"I have positive relationships with those who matter. I fortunately possess a healthy mindset and physical strength to embrace life's experiences with faith and positivity." 🌻

Gratitude: A Bedrock for Optimism

Gratitude forms a bedrock for optimism. As we pursue our ambitions, it’s good to be thankful for what we have in the present—and to find contentment in it, too.

The science is clear. Leading university studies demonstrate that regularly practising gratitude leads to sustained optimism and a more positive outlook on life.

Paul Levins shared with me, “Optimism is intertwined with gratitude. Gratitude, in turn, reinvigorates optimism.”

Rae Snape, an education author and radical optimist, told me, “Gratitude opens the heart and attunes us to the nuances of life. This awareness is crucial for spotting opportunities, the foundation of optimism.”

Bruce Everett added, "Being grateful in the present helps me to be optimistic in a great-full future."

Alesha Printz, General Manager - Victoria Division, Engineers Australia, remarked, "Optimism and gratitude go together hand in hand, like two sides of the same coin. Gratitude is the practice of looking back and being thankful. Optimism is the practice of looking forward and being hopeful."

So, how can you integrate gratitude into your daily life? Here are two simple yet powerful practices:

  1. Express Your Thanks Regularly: Whether in person, by phone, email, or by message, make it a habit to thank those around you. The more you do it, the better you'll feel.

  2. Record Daily Gratitude: At the end of each day, jot down the three best things that happened. The key to its power is reviewing your list each morning to start the day positively.

Incorporating these practices can help you build a strong foundation of optimism and enhance your overall well-being.

What are your thoughts on adopting these gratitude habits?
