Vale Trish Vejby: Author "How Should Optimists Comfort the Grieving?"

Our dear friend and enthusiastic supporter of our Optimism movement, Trish Vejby OAM JP, died yesterday.  She was a marriage celebrant and brought so much joy to so many.  Trish was a very popular funeral celebrant and brought comfort to hundreds of families.

Trish told me, "What makes me optimistic? There is always a positive in the deepest negative, although at times hard to find. But a smile and an open heart to others can put life into perspective."

Trish was the lead author of "Grief: How Should an Optimist Comfort and Support the Grieving?" with Christy Roberts and me.

It's a very good guide with Trish's Do's and Don’ts.

In part, it advises, "What’s Really Important?  Your key role is simply to provide comfort, to be there for them.  You can’t solve someone’s grief; it can’t be ‘fixed’ because they are not ‘broken’. They are grieving. Indeed, it’s hard to predict how your friend’s grief will evolve because we are all unique, as are the circumstances causing the grief.   It’s essential to recognise that whilst pain is inevitable, suffering is optional. This is an important distinction...."

Trish's own funeral will be on 6 February.  I am sure it will be a celebration of a life well lived and a lady well loved.
