"There always is a happy ending, the couple always ends up together. Yet this is part of what makes a Marie Lu novel so comforting — there’s a palpable belief in the goodness of human nature and the agency of a single person to effect change, no matter how dark their situation gets.
"The characters in her books choose to take control of their fates and change the narrative, and in a sense, Lu does so too. The choice to believe in happy endings is defiant in the face of the dystopian-like realities of the 2020s, and for Lu, it's a comforting one."
