The Profound Optimism of the PM of Nepal

As the Nepal Investment Summit 2024 in Kathmandu commenced, Nepal's Prime Minister, Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, welcomed the delegates and participants with a powerful expression of profound optimism and confidence in Nepal's potential as a premier investment destination.

I like that expression of optimism, "profound optimism".

Reflecting on a personal experience, I recall opening my speech at the Parliament's Iftar Dinner earlier this year with a heartfelt statement, "On behalf of all of us gathered here tonight to break the Ramadan fast, I am filled with profound optimism, gratitude, and joy as we share this special Iftar dinner."

Where else have I found profound optimism?

In the Melbourne Holocaust Museum Newsletter, Pauline Rockman (Co-President), Sue Hampel (Co-President), and Jayne Josem (CEO) wrote, "We were saddened by the passing of Holocaust survivor Phillip Maisel OAM on 22 August, just one week after celebrating his 100th birthday... "Phillip's main gift to us all was his profound optimism, despite everything, and it is this spirit which we will take with us to our new home, the recently rebuilt MHM."

On the death of Elizabeth II, The Honourable Phil Gude shared this beautiful piece of wisdom and insight with me: "I have had the pleasure of living under the ever-watchful cover of two Kings and our sovereign lady Queen Elizabeth. Her late father served his country and the British Commonwealth through some of the World's darkest days and nights. Even in ill health, George VI always exhibited optimism in his thoughts and optimism that his people would succeed in overcoming the oppressor. I was in sixth-grade primary school when he passed. Our now late Queen inherited his positive spirit in spades. She saw us through the recovery from WW2. Queen Elizabeth maintained her optimism that a better world would be built no matter what conflict she confronted, including complicated family matters. There have been many international conflicts and wars during her realm affecting those of us within the British Commonwealth of Nations: Through wars, famine, fire and floods, she maintained in the most dignified way a stoic assurance that any obstacle encountered in life would or could be overcome. That was something my late father instilled in me too. Yet, at the same time, they retained by word and deed a profound optimism that solutions can and will be found by mankind."

What is Pround Optimism?

Profound optimism transcends mere positivity. It's a cornerstone belief, a deep wellspring of faith in the potential for good, even amidst the storms of challenge and setbacks. This unwavering conviction isn't blind; it acknowledges the complexities of life. Yet, it stubbornly insists that positive outcomes are possible and probable. It shapes a worldview where inherent good simmers beneath the surface of situations and people, waiting to be coaxed forth. Profound optimism fuels resilience. The unwavering ember of profound optimism keeps hope flickering even in adversity. This potent force propels individuals towards their goals, a constant undercurrent propelling action and decision-making. It's the belief that things can improve and that we have the agency to improve them. This unshakeable faith catalyses transformative change, a force that ripples outward, inspiring and empowering others.
