Ardern: We don't need to lose sight of hope and optimism.

Speaking after her speech to the United General Assembly, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said, "We don't need to lose sight of hope and optimism."

In her speech at the General Assembly, she concluded, "In these times, I am acutely aware of how easy it is to feel disheartened. We are facing many battles on many fronts. But there is cause for optimism. Because for every new weapon we face, there is a new tool to overcome it. For every attempt to push the world into chaos, is a collective conviction to bring us back to order. We have the means; we just need the collective will."

In our collection of climate optimists, we like Jacinda's call to optimism and action; she said "You may well argue that, based on our current trajectory, now is not the time for optimism. "But if we only talk about the loss of glacier mass or sea level rises we run the risk of a society that believes all is lost and that it is simply too late. It is not. No one has the luxury of copping out. Not those who deny climate change, nor those who believe it’s too far gone. Now is the time for optimism and for hope and crucially a plan.
