Spring Optimism
By Victor Perton, the Author of "Optimism: The How and Why?"
Spring is a season of renewal, a time when the world awakens from its winter slumber and bursts forth with new life. With longer days, warmer weather, and the sight of flowers blooming, it's no wonder that Spring brings about a sense of optimism and hope. As the famous poet Rainer Maria Rilke said, "Spring has returned. The earth is like a child that knows poems."
The beauty of Spring is captured in many works of literature and music. For example, William Wordsworth's poem "Lines Written in Early Spring" describes the joy of the season: "To her fair works did Nature link / The human soul that through me ran; / And much it grieved my heart to think / What man has made of man."
Similarly, the song "Here Comes the Sun" by The Beatles celebrates the arrival of Spring and the optimism it brings: "Here comes the sun, doo-doo-doo-doo / Here comes the sun, and I say / It's all right." The song speaks to the idea that Spring brings hope and joy, even after a long winter.
In addition to literature and music, Spring is also celebrated through festivals and traditions around the world. In Japan, the cherry blossom season marks the beginning of Spring, and people gather to admire the beautiful flowers and celebrate the renewal of life. Similarly, in many cultures, Spring is a time of cleansing and renewal, where people clean their homes and bodies in preparation for the new season.
Overall, Spring is a season that fills us with optimism and hope. It reminds us that life is cyclical, and after the darkness of winter comes the brightness of Spring. As the poet e.e. cummings wrote, "the earth laughs in flowers."
Bill Kenny in "A lovely spring stroll around Chelsea Parade with a detour to the Lower Falls"
"Spring is about optimism, plans and projects. I hope you have enough of the first to see you through the other two."
Joseph S. Nye, former Dean of the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University
“What makes me optimistic? Remember, in the words of the song, the best things in life are free: a kind word; a gentle kiss from someone you love; a slanting shaft of afternoon sunlight coming in the window; a green shoot in Spring; a snowflake on your sleeve in Winter. All you have to do is remember to slow down and smell the flowers.”
Stefan Shaffer, Managing Partner of SPP Capital Partners
"Optimism is the understanding and appreciation that life is cyclical, and the same way winter can present us at times with bitter cold and hazardous conditions, spring brings renewed life and sunshine. We simply weather the tough times, celebrate the good times, and respect that both exist in the natural course of life."
