Julie Watson's Path Forward Through Optimism

"What makes me optimistic? When I am faced with a challenge, I will continue to look for ways to make it work until all (time permitting) obstacles are removed and I can see a path forward. I crave loads of information to weed out what I don’t need or won’t work and find and focus on what will."

Julie Watson told me that when I asked her what made her optimistic,

Julie is CEO of Stronger Than My Excuses, a media production company dedicated to helping businesses, organisations, and causes to have a voice and speak up.

What makes you optimistic?

I asked Julie about the positive leaders in her life.  Julie told me, "My parents taught me the importance of empathy and understanding—lessons that have shaped my life. They were great leaders. As a teenager, I sometimes made mistakes, like speaking behind someone’s back or sharing secrets. Those actions never sat right with me, and my parents always reminded me to walk in others' shoes and avoid making assumptions. They instilled in me the belief that everyone has a story, often with difficult beginnings, and it's our responsibility to do our best without blame. I still look up to them today. Being kind feels right and in return, I live a life that mostly feels good."
