For Jules McMurtrie Optimism serves as a Powerful Catalyst

"For me, optimism serves as a powerful catalyst that drives us forward, even when the road is challenging."

Our Victor Perton asked Jules McMurtrie, what makes her optimistic.

CAS_Edited-15Julie told Victor, "As the Chief Optimist of Climate Action Schools (CAS), my role goes beyond just being positive. It's about holding the unwavering belief that our collective efforts can truly make a difference and change the trajectory of our world towards a more sustainable future.

"As an assertive neurotype, I’m often seen as someone who is driven by passion to achieve an objective.  Not all neurotypes are built this way, and I understand this.

 "What makes ME optimistic?

  1. Resilience in Action: Leading Climate Action Schools has brought me firsthand experiences of the resilience our educators, students, and communities possess. Seeing them rise above challenges, maintaining their commitment to environmentally friendly practices, and advocating for change - that's a truly inspiring testament to the power of the human spirit.
  2. Collective Behaviour Transformation: Every day, I witness in our schools the shift from traditional, linear ways of thinking and acting towards embracing circular economy principles - reducing waste, rethinking resources, and redesigning traditional school routines. This sea change in collective behaviour gives me hope that we're reshaping the future.
  3. The Spark of Youth: Our students, with their unquenchable curiosity and zest for innovation, are the biggest reason I remain an optimist. They're not just passive bystanders - they're active champions of climate action, shaping this world into a place they would be proud to inherit.
  4. Progress in Sustainability: Schools are redesigning their infrastructure to be more energy-efficient, implementing waste reduction strategies and strives towards net-zero emissions. Such strides in progress lift my spirits and reinforce the optimistic view that we are, indeed, heading in the right direction.

"But optimism itself isn't the end goal. For me, optimism serves as a powerful catalyst that drives us forward, even when the road is challenging. Being the Chief Optimist doesn't mean turning a blind eye to the realities we face, but it involves looking these hardships straight on and saying, "We can, and we WILL, make a difference." Because in the end, optimism is a form of resilience that keeps us moving forward, pushing boundaries, and showing up every day to fight for the future we all deserve.

"Optimism is what happens when we choose to see not just where we are, but where we could be. So, let's continue to plant the seeds of sustainability, water them with our collective efforts, and watch as they bloom into a greener future.

"For this optimist, the future is bright, and it's green.'
