The Optimist Heart
Sunday November 22
Tamar has worked in the Aged Care industry for the past 18 years both internationally and here in Australia. She has held senior management and leadership roles operating Retirement Villages, Hostels, Nursing Homes and Dementia Units. She holds many relevant and necessary qualifications such as a Masters of Health Service Management, a Bachelor of Science and various certificates and diplomas which provide her with a solid skill and knowledge base in Gerontology. She is recognised as a Specialist in both Behaviour Management and Aged Care and offers consultancies to various aged care providers. Tamar is also a RN. Tamar Krebs founded Group Homes Australia in 2011 and has since grown her innovative dementia model of small group homes to 20 homes across Sydney.
With all the terrible news and situations that we see and hear about in aged care institutions, it's important to highlight the stories of real and abiding success, somewhere we can look to for hope and optimism moving into a critical time for Australian elders.
Personal note: My mother Joanie has lived with dementia now for a decade and a half. when it became clear that her care needs were beyond our capacity as a family, we finally landed on the Group Homes Australia model (after kidnapping her from a so-called top of the range care facility). Mum has now been with GHA for over 6 years and according to statistics she ought to have passed away some years ago, yet there's so much love and genuine care in her home, that she keeps on staying with us. For our family, Group Homes is a blessing.
About The Optimist Heart
We have been touched by the presence of extraordinary friends during this past 3 months. The Optimist Heart began as a heartful response to lockdown, speaking to a need for community and conversational options that nourish, restore and inspire. A very natural place of authentic engagement where no presentations are delivered, no arduous preparation is considered (Principle: our lives are our preparation), and absolutely no pressure to perform. Simply a great place to hang out on a Sunday morning.
Why not join us? If you're new to the space, you know that pjs and brekky are welcome. If you're one of our regular community, welcome back. You're what makes this happen.
Here's to another week of a big, warm, intelligent hug together
