This is a morning coffee with Simon Spencer starting the conversation.
Simon told us, "When the first lockdown was announced, my nephew Alexander who is a student in Virginia sent me the youtube video below . It likened all our experiences in lockdown to that of the isolation of an astronaut, alone aboard a personal spaceship, while below down on earth others fought against the global pandemic and it has one simple optimistic message. Use this time wisely and aim to return better than when you left.
"So over the last past 4 months I have taken this onboard and would like to discuss over coffee a few of the things I have undertaken that have included forming expeditions to climb Kilimanjaro and trek Bhutan to find the Yeti (virtually), doing 70 push-ups a day and helping 3 ‘Gen-Q’ year 12 students to found their new business.
"Emily St. John Mandel wrote in her great book Station Eleven, quoting from Star Trek that ‘Survival is insufficient’, so lets discuss over coffee ways that we can use this challenging time to make positive changes in ourselves, support others and enhance our communities, economy and wider lives."
