Rosh Hashanah is a reminder of the importance of optimism

The Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau,  said, "Tonight, at sunset, Jewish communities in Canada and around the world will celebrate Rosh Hashanah.  This celebration marks the beginning of the Jewish New Year and the 10-day High Holidays period, ending in Yom Kippur. The New Year is an opportunity to reflect on the challenges and successes of the past year, and to look forward with renewed optimism and hope."

The Australian Leader of the Opposition, Peter Dutton, said, "Rosh Hashanah is a reminder of the importance of contemplation, gratitude, and optimism."

Ontario Premier Doug Ford joined the celebration, saying, "To all those who celebrate, I wish you a new year filled with peace, prosperity, and optimism for all the blessings in store. Shana Tova!”

Rabba Dina Brawer wrote, "Rosh Hashanah itself is a day of tension between two contradicting sentiments: awe and joy. On one hand it is called Yom Hadin, the Day of Judgement, and Yom Hazikaron, the Day of Remembrance, names that demand a degree of trepidation, as they imply that our past will be reviewed and scrutinised. On the other hand, it is also a day replete with symbols of optimistic and joyous anticipation for new potential and possibilities. We anticipate sweetness with the taste of honey, abundance with a pomegranate and new experiences by tasting a new fruit. Even the traditional festival greetings exude joy."

Rabbi Danny Burkeman, senior rabbi at Temple Shir Tikva in Wayland, wrote,  "I love that as a Jew I get to celebrate both the secular New Year and Rosh Hashanah. Despite the differences, every new year brings with it a sense of hope and optimism. It feels like anything is possible. The new year beckons us like the first blank page in a brand-new book notebook — it is filled with possibility, promise and potential — we can write or draw on it whatever we choose."

Adi Avital, owner and founder of the Anita group and the Golda network, said, "Rosh Hashanah symbolizes new beginnings, hope and optimism."
