# The Optimistic Chair: Rod Wade of World Commerce & Contracting

Today, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Rod Wade, the Chair of World Commerce & Contracting, for a conversation about leadership, optimism, and the future of global commerce. Rod's remarkable journey—from his diverse upbringing to his influential role in shaping global commercial and contract management standards—reveals the power of optimism in driving success across industries.

Rod, a globally respected leader and an active supporter of the Centre for Optimism, has proven the critical role of optimism in leadership. His infectious optimism and leadership style have been particularly crucial during disruptions, such as in the healthcare sector during the pandemic. This underscores how an optimistic mindset fosters innovation and resilience.

 

During our conversation, I asked Rod what makes him optimistic, and we touched upon this several times. He told me, *"When we grab onto those things that truly matter, that love, that altruism, that laughter, that love of music, that love of engagement with each other, that's where optimism lives for me."* This insight into Rod's optimism highlights how deeply human experience, relationships, and joy are connected to his leadership philosophy.

 

Our discussion also touched upon the future of contract management and the significant role optimism plays in digital transformation and global commerce. Rod emphasized that an optimistic mindset doesn't mean ignoring challenges but rather seeing opportunities where others may see obstacles. This perspective is crucial as industries continue to evolve, guiding leaders to see opportunities in challenges.
