Net Zero Optimism: Sara Versano

"Net Zero Optimism"

I love the expression from Eurima's Sara Versano in her article "Net Zero Optimism: the Modern Way to Decarbonise Europe" and have to add it to our optimism superpowers.

Sara writes, "I am, personally, an optimist. And I try to see this climate crisis as an opportunity. I feel that this is a moment of #change for humankind in general, and also for industry.”

The “levers” to decarbonisation include energy efficiency and the circular economy.

Some other thoughts:

Nigel Topping, UK High-Level Climate Action Champion, said, "We need net zero optimism to match the scale of the climate challenge. It is only by aiming high and working together that we can build a sustainable future for all."

Mary Robinson, Former President of Ireland and Chair of The Elders said "Net zero optimism is not just about reducing emissions, it's about creating a better world for future generations. It's about building a more just, equitable, and sustainable society."

Christiana Figueres, Former Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC and Co-Founder of Global Optimism said "Net zero optimism is not a naive belief that everything will be fine if we just set ambitious targets. It's a recognition that we have the power to shape our own future, and that we must act now to create the world we want to live in."

Inger Andersen, Executive Director of the UN Environment Programme said, "Net zero optimism is not a slogan, it's a call to action. We need to work together across borders, sectors, and generations to create a carbon-free future that is fair and just for all." -
