"What’s binding it together is not so much design as an incredible sense of enthusiasm and optimism. The idea with the resources and the will, you can do and make anything."
An interesting insight from Monty Don on the American Garden and the American spirit in Episode One of "Monty Don's American Gardens."
I was entranced at the 52-minute mark when Monty talked about the difference between the European and American gardens and the influence of the pioneering spirit and identified optimism as a significant trait.
As you know, I often joke that the three great classes of optimists are gardeners, golfers and fishers.
Maybe the fourth is still "The American".
Yesterday, I commented on a tweet by Joe Biden: "I believe America is an optimistic nation, driven by a simple proposition that everybody deserves a clear shot. I ran for president to give more Americans an even chance. And I'll continue delivering on that promise."
Maybe Joe is right; he and Monty are on the same wavelength in interpreting the American spirit of optimism.
What do you think?
