Make a Bigger Contribution to the World: Mary Aldred

"Optimism means saying 'yes' to the challenge. Having the confidence to go beyond your comfort zone and challenge yourself to make a bigger contribution to the world around you."

That's what Gippslander, Mary Aldred, told me when I asked what makes her optimistic.

Mary has just concluded her term as Chief Executive Officer of the Franchise Council of Australia.  2023 beckons with a new role,  Head of Government Relations for Asia Pacific with Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand.  Amongst her many achievements, Mary was AFR Boss Magazine 2018 Young Executive Winner.

What makes you optimistic?

Mary's reference to saying yes to challenge reminds me of another inspiring leader, Sally Guyer, CEO of World Commerce and Contracting, who told me, "What makes me optimistic is an innate desire to be happy. And I take personal responsibility for being a happy and positive person - for seeing the opportunities and overcoming challenges - not giving up. I guess I’m ambitious too and I’m sure ambition requires optimism."
